Vroooom!
It’s utterly ridiculous to look at, but brilliant and hilarious at the same time. A motor-uni-cycle? Obviously Ben Gulak spent his teens doing more than stoning out to “The Wall” in his basement bedroom.
Created as an antidote to the smog-inducing, carbon-belching motorbikes your favorite uncle rode to make your grandparents angry, Gulak crafted an all electric unicycle with the assistance of Trevor Blackwell, a robotics engineer. (Blackwell helped with the electrical/wiring issues, including the gyroscope for orientation.)
Reportedly much more stable than a traditional single-wheel unicycle, the UNO behaves very much like a Segway - lean and go. It’s a wonderfully creative, innovative answer to the transporation messes in large urban areas the world over. I really hope they do get into production, but at the very least I hope they prompt a few more bright minds to keep thinking of ways to take things in the same direction.
(And I really, really hope someone offers to let me ride one.)
